This book is well written and researched. It consisted of many efforts by a group of Irish immigrants who tried and invaded Canada to take it over and force Britain to finish making Ireland a republic. All of this took place shortly after the Civil War as groups of Irishmen fighting on both sides of the war joined the cause. They failed because their leadership was too one-sided and poorly organized. At first, the United States had a passive/proactive interest under President Andrew Johnson, but more realistically under President Grant. Instead of dividing Canada from Britain, they brought the provinces closer together.
