rom publisher: Just over a year after Robert E. Lee gave up his sword, a group of Confederate and Confederate veterans opened fire. But these old enemies had no intention of rekindling the Civil War. Sailors Never Die We Report To Davy Jones Locker Shirt, Veterans T-Shirt
By the time these invasions - known collectively as the Fenian Raid - began in 1866, Ireland had been an unwanted British colony for seven hundred years. Thousands of Civil War veterans considered themselves Irish before they were Americans. They were the ones who fled rather than perished after the Great Famine, and now they take their cues from the previous generation of successful American revolutionaries. With tacit support from the US government, the Fenian Brotherhood established a state in exile, planning prison escapes, internal blockades, stockpiling weapons, and assassinating enemies. Challengingly, this rogue group, consisting of a one-armed war hero, a British spy who infiltrated the insurgents, and an extremist organizing his own funeral, won a share. land of Canada - if only for three days.
