This was an eye-opening, slap-in-the face, just WOW book. It is the story of the only known man to ever escape from a North Korean prison camp. Truthfully, my own ignorance on the subject was complete. Before reading this, I didn't even know that prison camps (similar to concentration camps of Nazi origin) existed in North Korea. And then to read about the scope of the horrific, grisly things that STILL OCCUR there was a little mind boggling to me. Initially, I wasn't sure if I should even read it--the intense, graphic violence described in the first few chapters in anything but G-rated. Yet, I couldn't put it down. And ultimately, I am glad I finished it.
