Shin Dong-Hyuk's is the only narrative I've read of someone who had actually been born in a North Korean prison city. That makes his story remarkable on several counts. First, even that he was allowed to live. Sex is not allowed in prison camps. Exceptions are extremely rare, except for frequent rapes of inmates by guards. A pregnant woman is usually murdered as soon as her pregnancy is known, and her baby is ripped out and dashed to death in front of her. North Korean prison cities are not nice places.
