I was afraid the book would be excessively violent and gory. It did refer to violence and terrible things, but did not describe them in such detail as to make me sick. Of course if one sits and dwells on the experiences and uses imagination, the scenes conjured up could be horrific. The descriptions were much milder than those in Unbroken or Long Way Gone.
