Clocking in at just 167 pp., Osnos’ is a quick read. Though not a deep biography by any means, it provides enough depth to give Americans a sense of who Joe Biden is, what he believes and stands for, and what kind of man his is. What kind of President he will make is something none of us know for sure. But as a reluctant Biden voter (I had a fair amount of fondness for Joe before and during the Obama era, but had moved on when he became the Democratic nominee) I feel much more confident in his potential now having read Osnos’ . Of course it’s a single story of the man, and certainly not one someone like Michael Savage would write, but Osnos’ seems to be fair in doling out fair praise and serious criticism of Biden. So I am willing to feel compelled at present. It’s time to read more about Joe and to see, with an eye toward being fairly critical, how he fairs as our 46th President. Osnos’ concludes the with a quote from FDR: “The Presidency is not merely an administrative office...It is pre-eminently a place of moral leadership.” If Biden can bring morality back to the office he will have achieved something important indeed.
